Active Directory Domain Services is Currently Unavailable

Reading Time: 15 minutes

Are you trying to connect your new printer to your computer? Well, the error “Active Directory Domain Services is Currently Unavailable” is one of the common problems in Windows when you try to establish a connection between your printer and your PC or when you try to scan your system for a printer. This error is independent of the brand or model number of the printer, whether HP, Canon or Lexmark. You can also find this error if your printer is already installed, but you have updated it with new drivers.

Solutions for the problem “Active Directory Domain Services is Currently Unavailable” in Windows 10

See the next solution that will help you resolve the error “Active Directory Domain Services is Currently Unavailable“. Even if you do not face this specific problem, the solutions are very standardized and can be useful when there is a problem with the printer.

Solution 1: Reset the printer print queue settings

Print Spooler is a software program responsible for managing all things related to printing on your computer. The program also allows you to interrupt a printing process and delete it if necessary. Therefore, it is an all-in-one tool to perform printing tasks for you and helps your Windows PC to interact with printers and manage print jobs in queues.

The first solution would be to reset the print queue settings to correct any printing problems. Follow the steps mentioned below:

  • Open the Run box using the Windows key + R button on your keyboard.
  • Now type services.msc and press Enter, and this will open your Service window.
  • Scroll down and right-click on Print Queue and click Start.
  • Once you have started Printer Spooler, double click on it.
  • On the General tab, go down to Startup Type and set it to Automatic. Click OK
  • Now check if you can print your files.

Solution 2: Add the printer manually and update the drivers

Like restarting the PC, many Windows problems are resolved, removing the printer and then adding it again may work when you see the error “Active Directory Domain Services is Currently Unavailable

  • Go to Control Panel> Devices and printers.
  • Right-click on the name of your printer and click Remove device.
  • Once your printer has been successfully removed from your system, click Add a printer.
  • Then follow the instructions in the wizard that shows how to add a printer.
  • Be sure to connect your printer to the PC. If you are on a wireless printer network, try connecting it to the PC via USB that can help if there is a problem with wireless connectivity.
  • Once you have manually added the printer to your computer, make sure you have the updated drivers for your printer. Many times, when you do not have the appropriate or updated drivers, the printer may face problems and show the error “Active Directory Domain Services is Currently Unavailable
  • The best option is to update the drivers manually.
  • To do this, you must navigate to the official website of its manufacturer and download the latest drivers and make sure to save it in an accessible location.
  • Open the execution box with the Windows key + R and type devmgmt.msc and press Enter.
  • Scroll down to Print queues and expand it.
  • Right-click on the name of your printer and click on Update Driver.
  • Then, select the option Search my computer for driver software.
  • Click Browse and navigate to the file you just downloaded.
  • Select the file and click Next.
  • When the new driver is fully installed, restart your PC and check if the problem is resolved. See our guide to addressing any problems or questions about Windows drivers you may have.

Solution 3: Grant your account full access to the printer and Windows ports

Sometimes, when the PC does not have full access to the devices, it may show an error such as “Active Directory Domain Services is Currently Unavailable“. The solution here is simple. You must make some changes to Registry Editor and grant full access to PrinterPorts and Windows.

  • Before doing this, you must create a restore point.
  • Go to Windows Start and type Regedit, and this will start Registry Editor.
  • Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER> Software> Microsoft> Windows NT> CurrentVersion
  • Now, expand CurrentVersion and right-click on Devices and select Permissions.
  • Now, check the Total Control box and click OK to make the changes.
  • You must repeat these steps for both PrinterPorts and Windows to give them full permission.

Solution 4: Recognize the printer using other applications

Another solution by which you can resolve the error “Active Directory Domain Services is Currently Unavailable” is to recognize the printer using other applications such as Word, Paint or Notepad.

  • Let’s take Paint to show how you can scan a printer through an application.
  • Open Paint and click on the File option in the upper left corner.
  • Now expand Print. You will see three options here: Print, Page Setup, Print Preview.
  • Click on Print
  • Now, let your system look for new printer devices.
  • Click Search Printer.
  • Windows will start detecting new printers, and this should show your printer device.

Solution 5: Run the printer’s integrated troubleshooter: perform troubleshooting logged in as an administrator

  • Log in as an administrator on your PC and type Troubleshooting in the Windows search bar to go to the Troubleshooting Settings.
  • Now navigate to Printers and click on it.
  • You will see the option Run the troubleshooter.
  • Click on it and follow the troubleshooting instructions to see if it resolves the error.

Hopefully, running the troubleshooter from the administrator account should be the trick. Still, if not, follow the same process with a user account (local).

Solution 6: Perform a system scan

If there are viruses and malware on your system, the error “Active Directory Domain Services is Currently Unavailable” may appear. The virus can affect the printer and, therefore, your system cannot detect your printer.

  • You should perform a full system scan to see if malware is running on your PC and prevent access to the printer.
  • You can use the built-in Windows Antivirus or Defender Firewall or third-party Antivirus software.

Solution 7: Make sure your operating system is up to date

Upgrading the operating system can do you a favor and help you resolve the error “Active Directory Domain Services is Currently Unavailable” in no time.

  • To check for updates to your operating system, type update in the Windows search bar and it will take you to the Windows Update option.
  • Click Check for updates. Make sure you have the latest version of Windows on your system, as Microsoft frequently releases new updates to make the system more stable with improved performance.

Solution 8: Update your Office Suite

One of the reasons why your system could not detect your printer may be associated with corrupt files in your Office Suite. Damaged files can create a barrier between your system and the printer, which leads to an error such as “Active Directory Domain Services is Currently Unavailable“. Try updating Office Suite and see if it solves the problem and returns your printer to operational status.

Solution 9: Restart your router and add the printer again

When you receive an error such as “Active Directory Domain Services is Currently Unavailable”  the last resort could be to restart your router. Restart your router and turn off the firewall.

  • Now, wait a minute or two. Then, restart your computer and add your printer manually.
  • To add a printer, go to Control Panel> Device and printers and click Add a printer.
  • Windows will search for available printer devices, choose your printer and add it to your computer.

The solutions listed above will fix the “Active Directory Domain Services is Currently Unavailable” error in Windows. Since the printer is an external device that connects to your computer wirelessly or through a wired network, there may be several reasons to obtain this error.

Therefore, a specific solution cannot solve this problem. You may have to try more than a couple of solutions to get rid of this error. Let us know the solution that worked for you. And if your solution is not listed above, let us know your solution. We would be more than happy to add another answer to the problem.

How to Disable Windows Defender

Reading Time: 8 minutes

In Windows 10, Windows Defender Antivirus is a free and reliable antimalware function designed to protect your device and your data against unwanted viruses, ransomware, spyware and many other forms of malware and even hackers. Even so, although it is good enough for most users, there are situations in which you may not want to use the security function. Sometimes, you may want to disable it to perform certain tasks that Windows Defender may interfere with, or plan to install other antivirus applications. In this article, I will show you how to disable Windows Defender in Windows 10:

How to disable Windows Defender antivirus using Windows security

Before disabling the built-in security solution, if you plan to perform a specific task, you do not need to disable Windows Defender Antivirus permanently. You just need to turn it off temporarily.

To disable the default antivirus in Windows 10 temporarily, follow these steps:

  1. Open start
  2. Search for Windows Security and click on the top result to open the application.
  3. Click on Protection against viruses and threats.
  4. In the “Virus and threat protection settings” section, click on the Manage settings option.
  5. Turn off the “Real-time protection” toggle switch.

Once you complete the steps, the antivirus will disable real-time protection, which will allow you to install applications or make a specific change to the system that you could not make before because the security function was blocking the action.

Turn off Windows Defender using the registry

If you are looking for a more permanent solution for that annoying Windows Defender, use your registry. This will disable Windows Defender forever until you turn it back on manually.

Note: Walk lightly when digging through the log. An incorrect edition in the registry can cause irreversible damage to your system. Make a backup of your information before continuing on this path.

  1. Open the registry
  2. Open the Run command using the keyboard shortcut: Windows key + R. Type “Regedit” and click “OK.”
  3. A pop-up window may appear asking if you want to allow this application to make changes to your device. Click “Yes.”
  4. Explore the route below

Copy and paste the address path below into the search bar at the top of the window and press enter:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Windows Defender

  • Right-click on the Windows Defender folder, select ‘New’ from the drop-down menu and choose ‘DWORD Value (32 bits)’

Only do this if you don’t see DisableAntiSpyware in the folder. If you see it, you can skip stepping 5.

  • Name it DisableAntiSpyware and press Enter

A new item will appear in the folder, with the text highlighted. Delete the current text and type ‘DisableAntiSpyware’. Then press Enter. The item must now be saved in the folder.

  • Double-click DisableAntiSpyware and change ‘0’ to ‘1’

Double-click on the new DisableAntiSpyware item. A pop-up window will appear to edit the DWORD. In the ‘Value information’ field, enter ‘1.’ Click OK. ‘

  • Restart your device

Restart your Windows device to install the new editions. Your Windows Defender should now be permanently disabled.

Note: If you want to activate Windows Defender in the future, follow steps 1-2 and then right-click on ‘Remove AntiSpyware’ and select ‘Delete’. A warning will appear: click on ‘Yes’. Restart your computer. Windows Defender should now turn on again.

Disable Windows Defender in Windows 7 or 8

In Windows 7 and 8, you must completely disable Windows Defender when you want to run another antivirus application. You cannot simply disable real-time protection as you do in Windows 10. Again, Defender should be automatically disabled when you install a third-party application and re-enabled if you uninstall that application later. But it doesn’t hurt to make sure.

  • Open Windows Defender by pressing start, typing “defend” and then clicking “Windows Defender.”
  • Switch to the “Tools” page in the menu and then click on the “Options” link.
  • Switch to the “Administrator” tab in the left panel and then select the “Use this program” checkbox as desired. When finished, click on the “Save” button.
  • Windows Defender then confirms that you have disabled it. Amazing!

Remove Bloatware from Windows 10

Reading Time: 8 minutes

Don’t you hate it when you get a shiny new computer, and you find it full of programs you don’t want or need (or what we call bloatware)? The manufacturer added these programs to your computer to promote their apps or the apps of their partners. The apps do not take up a lot of space, but depending on the number of them installed, they can cause a quick problem. You can remove bloatware from Windows 10 computers and free space. However, be aware that major Windows updates can only reinstall them anyway.

Most of these programs are impossible to uninstall using traditional uninstall, although some may be. They don’t want to make it easy to get rid of the apps because Microsoft and their partners will lose money if the programs aren’t on your computer. And even with several different methods of removing bloatware, there are some apps you can’t uninstall using any method. These apps include:

  • Contact support
  • Cortana
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Windows Feedback

The following are four different methods to remove bloatware from Windows 10 and unwanted applications to one method that will delete everything with one click of a button.

  7. Type this command: DISM / Online / Remove-ProvisionedAppxPackage / PackageName: PACKAGENAME
  8. Repeat until you have removed the bloatware you want to remove.
  9. Restart your machine for the changes that apply.

Windows 10 Debloater App

If you are absolutely sure you want to remove bloatware from Windows 10, you can use a third-party app called Windows 10 Debloater to remove them all with one click of a button. Here is a list of the programs that Windows 10 Debloater will remove.

  1. Go to the Windows 10 Debloater page.
  2. Click on the green clone as a download button.
  3. Click Download ZIP.
  4. Save the file to your machine.

Windows 10 Memory Leak

Reading Time: 16 minutes

There are times when your computer appears to be unreliable or inaccessible or simply slow down the process of data collection. Unless you are using a highly restricted program, the most likely cause of the slowdown in the Windows 10 memory leak.

This behavior can also be characterized by high CPU utilization or even space leakage on rare occasions. Although these terms are often used to represent one another, they are different from one another.

What is a memory leak?

Memory leaks occur when computer programs cannot handle memory allocation properly. This means that the memory used earlier by some programs has not been released even though the previous program does not need it anymore.

To make sure it is a memory leak, all you have to do is look at the system’s RAM usage. Use the resources and resources available and how much memory is used. We will show how this works as we move forward in this guide.

What is a space leak?

Space leaks are rare, and it is usually more of a software developer’s concern than most users ’concerns. Space leak occurs when the processor uses more RAM than expected.

In space leaks, the problem is temporary as the extra space used by the program is released when it stops, but it can slow down over time. This is in contrast to the memory leak in which unused memory is not used by any program.

High CPU utilization

The basic purpose of the CPU is to perform calculations according to the instructions. Some of the programs you use on the computer can cause a high percentage or even 100% CPU utilization. But if this is an ongoing event even if you are not using a heavy program, it could be a sign of a virus or adware infection and you need to take steps to avoid high CPU usage. Before thinking of replacing any hardware (RAM) to fix Windows 10 Memory Leak, you need to check that it is a software issue that needs to be fixed.

Impact of Windows 10 Memory Leak on your system

As we mentioned earlier, memory leaks are the result of untreated memory even when not in use.

  • Memory exhaustion, leaving no room for other programs to run.
  • The application may have failed due to memory block.
  • Lack of memory can slow down your operating system.

Before we move on to fixing the Windows 10 memory leak, let’s consider the easiest way to detect it.

How to detect Windows 10 memory leak?

The most basic way to avoid memory leaks is to monitor RAM usage of programs by logging into the Task Manager. You can add columns that you think are useful for maintaining the resources used by the application.

How to fix Windows 10 memory leak

  • Finish the unnecessary process and restart.

This is the simplest solution and therefore less reliable for Windows 10 memory leak, but it may work if the problem is small.

Go to Task Manager (CTRL + SHIFT + ESC), see which processes do not require RAM and end the process. When you complete the process, your system will need to restart to fix the memory leak.

Popular applications can also use a lot of RAM – Chrome eats a lot of memory and other browsers do the same. Periodic cleaning can help maintain better memory utilization.

  • Run the inbuilt memory diagnostic tool
  1. To make a diagnosis of memory, follow the steps below:
  2. First of all, make sure you save all unreleased tasks.
  3. Now press Win + R and type mdsched.exe.
  4. Press Enter
  5. Once the restart is complete, you must do a basic scan, or you can go to the ‘Advanced’ option, which includes Test Mix, Cache, and Pass Count.
  6. Now press F10 to start the test.
  7. Check whether the issue is resolved with this temporary solution
  • Check for OS updates

Operating systems such as Windows are constantly updating their features and even implementing improvements to make them faster. Even firmware updates can help improve the performance of your system.

As always, keep your Windows 10 up-to-date.

  • Check for driver updates

If drivers do not get updates on your system, it may cause Windows 10 memory leak.

Therefore, make sure all drivers are updated and in general, it is a good practice to follow, however. To update the driver, go to the device listed on all devices.

Go to Device Manager, press Win + R and type devmgmt.msc in the Run box, and press Enter. Check for all outdated drivers and update all of them.

  • Optimize Windows
  1. To optimize the system, you have to go to Control Panel> System and Security> System.
  2. Now on the left side of the window, move to Advanced System Settings.
  3. You need admin access to change this setting.
  4. Now under the Actions section, click on Settings.
  5. Under the Visual Effects tab, check for adjustments for the best performance.
  6. Click OK to confirm the change. Now restart PC and see if the problem is resolved.
  • Disable the Startup program

It is not a bad idea to shut down all bad start programs that may be the cause of Windows 10 memory leak.

To do that, you have to go to Task Manager (CTRL + SHIFT + ESC) and close those troubleshooting programs.

And if you’re confused about which program is generating the problem, go to Task Manager> Startup and close all the programs you don’t need at the start.

  • Defrag Hard Drive

Windows looks after your system, and therefore automatically drives the normal hard drive. However, it is a step ahead of time to drive hard on its own to avoid inconsistencies and poor performance.

  1. To do the same thing go to My Computer.
  2. Now right click on the hard drive (usually C: drive).
  3. Select Properties from the menu, and when you enter Properties, go to the Tools tab.
  4. Under the toolbar, click Optimize.
  5. Now select the drive you want to defrag and click on Analyze.

  4. Once done, save the changes and Restart to your computer.
  5. Now, this should work to fix the Windows 10 leak and memory sharing problem due to the large PageFile.
  • Disable Superfetch

Superfetch is a useful feature in Windows (used by ReadyBoost’s performance tools) that analyzes your RAM usage patterns and how much software you use. Once the analysis is complete, Superfetch loads them in RAM in advance to save loading time.

Well, it is not recommended to disable this feature, you can try it once in isolation to see if it is turning out for you.

  1. Navigate to the search bar and type services.msc and go to Services Manager.
  2. Scroll down to Superfetch and right-click on Properties.
  3. Select Stop. Along with that, disable the service from the Startup drop-down menu.
  4. Now Restart PC and see if it is the solution that works for you. And if it does not work, follow the same steps as above, except selecting the default type as ‘Auto’
  • Check for Malware
